Podcast Episode's:
Rorschach

Amit and Sunny review the mind-bending psychological thriller Rorschach (2022). We discuss the deeply layered story that keeps you guessing until the end, the outstanding performances of Mammootty and his stellar supporting cast, and the film’s bleak vision of how revenge and greed can corrupt everything it touches. Keanu Reeves and Liam Neeson may need to hold Mammootty’s beer because Rorschach delivers a tale of vengeance unlike any you’ve seen before. This is the latest in a series of Malayalam films D54 has reviewed and our admiration for the industry’s creativity and boldness only grows.

Find us on:

YouTube | Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Twitter| Tik Tok

She Hulk

Amit and Dennis have a long awaited conversation about She Hulk and how far the MCU has fallen from it's glory days. We review the show, but more important we discuss how Disney have ruined the MCU, Kevin's role in all of this, and try to decipher why people are so angry about this show. We also discuss if there is any hope left for the MCU. Tune in for an hour long enraging conversation from a couple of former MCU fans.

Find us on:

YouTube | Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

Cyberpunk Edgerunners

Amit, Sunny and Dennis react to the 2022 hit anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners. We discuss the stunning visuals and world-building but also the character and story shortcomings, all the while being schooled in cyberpunk and anime history by Dennis. This podcast has it all – the ethics of cybernetic modification, wildly divergent D-scale ratings, and Sunny getting punked again….

Find us on:

YouTube | Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

Minnal Murali

Amit and Sunny review the amazing 2021 Malayalam superhero film Minnal Murali. We react to the journey of Jaison and Shibu, one on the path to discovering his past and accepting his responsibility as a hero, and another crushed by society and on a tragic descent to villainy. We review the terrific performances of the charismatic leads, the unique and grounded storytelling approach, it’s perfect blend of charm, action and humour, and what sets this film apart from the increasingly tiresome Marvel franchise. Minnal Murali is a new vision of what superheroes films can be and we’re here for it!

Find us on:

YouTube | Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

Let Me In

Amit is joined by Ben from the History Voyager podcast to review one of his favourite films, Let Me In (2010) directed by Matt Reeves. We break this movie down and discuss the incredible performances from the child actors, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloë Grace Moretz, the directional style of Matt Reeves (and how he used similar traits in the Batman movie) and how this movie can be seen as a horror and /or a romance, depending how you want to see it. This was one of the most unique movies I have ever seen, and one I will remember for a long time.

Find us on:

YouTube | Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

The History Voyager podcast:

https://open.spotify.com/show/0dzdW8owkqm08bHZL08ZqJ?si=3a8500579133415d

Thallumaala

Amit and Sunny discuss the wildly entertaining Malayalam action film Thallumaala (2022). This story about a group of friends and the fights they get into has everything you could wish for and is perhaps the most unexpected film we’ve reviewed so far. In a discussion that’s almost as non-linear as the film, we cover the amazing cinematography, the chaotic and layered fight sequences, the incredibly talented cast, and Khalid Rahman’s masterful direction. This bold, colourful and relentlessly inventive film is wholly committed to its vision and unlike anything you’ll have seen before. Thallumalla will have you mermerised, entertained and stunned….as if you’d been kicked in the chest by Omega Babu himself.

Find us on:

YouTube | Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

Gargi
Join Amit, Dennis and Sunny in our first video review as we discuss the bold and deeply affecting Indian Tamil drama Gargi (2022). This story of brutal acts of violence against a child, and the consequences that follow, is masterfully directed (by Gautham Ramachandran) and handled with realism, nuance and a distinct lack of sensationalism. We discuss Sai Pallavi’s transcendent performance, the stellar supporting cast, those intense court room sequences, and brilliant storytelling that will leave you guessing until the end about the guilt or innocence of Gargi’s father. Gargi is a brave film that takes its audience on an unforgettable journey and leaves us more empathetic, informed and ultimately, wiser. Samaritan

Amit, Dennis and Sunny discuss Sylvester Stallone’s turn as a superhero in The Samaritan (2022). We discuss Stallone’s iconic status, his hits and misses, and his portrayal as an ageing and disaffected man coaxed back to using his powers for good by a determined and resilient young boy. We cover the great supporting cast, the twist everyone (except one of us) saw coming, the value of a simple story simply told, and the themes of belonging, family and choices that make us. The Marvel juggernaut might just have something to learn from this film. Where does the Samaritan land on the D54 rating scale, and shockingly, is this the best superhero film this year?

Find us on:

Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

Nope

Amit and Sunny review Jordan Peele’s latest sci-fi, horror blockbuster, Nope. We discuss the film’s awe-inspiring cinematography, it’s unique take on an alien threat, standout performances from Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer, and Peele’s masterful direction that keeps the audience mesmerised while also subverting their expectations. This might not be Peele’s best work, but Nope finds ways to stay with you, from its scenes of chimp-fuelled violence and late night horsing around to the disturbing fate of Jupe and his enthralled audience. As always, Peele also puts a mirror to society, highlighting our perverse obsession with viewing and profiting from tragic spectacles and our futile attempts to control the uncontrollable. Where does Nope land on our new rating scale? Take a listen to find out!

Find us on:

Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

Darkman

Before his Spiderman trilogy and Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Sam Raimi introduced the world to a superhero of his own making in the 1990 classic Darkman. We discuss Raimi’s refreshingly bold visual style, exhilarating action sequences that demonstrate how much can be accomplished with so little, and Raimi’s own superpower of seamlessly blending action, horror and goofiness. Liam Neeson is brilliant as the complex and conflicted Darkman, whose quest for vengeance propels a story that is both engrossing and unexpected. This forgotten gem is a reminder of the joy of superhero films …as well as a cautionary tale to never get between Liam Neeson and his pink elephant toy.

Find us on:

Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Tik Tok

Prey

Amit, Dennis and Sunny overcome their apprehensions and review the 2022 Predator prequel, Prey. We discuss the amazing cinematography, the tense and expertly crafted action sequences, deftly placed easter eggs, and a return to simple and well executed story-telling. Amber Midthunder’s terrific performance as the fierce heroine gives this story its heart, while her surrounding cast and the stunning landscapes give the audience an insight into the rhythms of life for a nomadic Comanche tribe. Include some dastardly French fur collectors and a dog who has more lives than a cat, and you’ve got a terrific addition to the Predator franchise. The D54 crew also unveil their new film rating system!

Find us on:

Instagram | Spotify | Apple Podcasts:

Vikram

We follow Agent Amar as his black ops team unravel the mystery of a group of masked vigilantes leaving a trail of bloodshed. We discuss Kamal Hassan’s towering performance, the superb supporting cast with some truly diabolical villains, fight sequences that Hollywood could learn a thing or two from, it’s masterful storytelling, and the exhilarating musical score. This gritty, high octane epic will leave you eagerly awaiting the brilliantly foreshadowed sequel and remind you that there’s nothing in the world more dangerous than Agent Tina with some kitchen utensils!

The Gray Man

Amit is joined by the one and only, Doug from the My Dad, I'm Dad, podcast to review the latest Netflix Original action blockbuster, The Gray Man. This movie was wild, and we were all in for the craziness it had to offer. We talk about the Russo Brothers style of directing, the return of Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans hilarious villainous turn, the cameos from Dhanush and Jessica Henwick, and of course the non stop action. This movie was like a throwback to the 90's, and we were there to revel in all it's macho glory.

My Dad, I'm Dad Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/20oVnOfveGp4m2SWa6iSGP

Find us on: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/d54.pod/

We can't stop talking about this movie, as we discuss the legacy of Nicolas Cage before breaking down this film for all it's greatness. Thor Love and Thunder

We discuss Marvel’s latest offering, Thor: Love and Thunder (aka Love and Chunder). Is this the messiest, legacy-killing Marvel movie to date, or a refreshingly bold commitment to being ridiculous? We discuss whether this gag a minute comedy hit all the wrong notes, the decided lack of Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Hemsworth the funny guy, Christian Bale as the terrifically frightening Gorr, and that Russell Crowe cameo. And don’t forget those screaming goats, bao gods and Thor’s true love – Mjolnir (and Jane Foster). The film might not be the GOAT, but is it at least worthy?

Jana Gana Mana
We review the part thriller, part courtroom drama that is Jana Gana Mana (2022). The film takes us on a breathless journey following a police officer who tries desperately to solve a heinous crime, to an impassioned lawyer who makes you question everything you thought you knew. We discuss the ambitious reach of this film, touching on everything from the role of the media to institutional racism and classism, the towering performances of the two leads, and the film’s cinematic and narrative choices. This is a film that will entertain, infuriate and ultimately, shine a light on how a nation, and we as individuals, discover the truth.

RRR

Cracking top 10 lists everywhere, this is the story of two legendary Indian revolutionaries taking on the British Raj, while educating us on how to catch a tiger and what motorbikes are actually designed for. We discuss the breathtaking action sequences, a colonial dance battle, the immensely talented leads, and the perfectly despicable Governor and his wife.
